    Core Team

    Dr. Flora Chang

    Dr. Flora Chang served as the president of Tamkang University (TKU) from 2004 to 2018, and is currently the Chairperson of Board of Trustees of TKU. Dr. Chang earned a master’s degree in economics from San Francisco State University in 1982, a second master’s degree in education from Stanford University in 1983, and a doctoral degree in higher education from Stanford University in 1995.

    Dr. Chang has devoted 30 years to the practice of Excellent Management. In 2009, under the leadership of Dr. Chang, TKU was awarded the 19th National Quality Award from the Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs for outstanding results in implementing a system of Total Quality Management. In addition, during the 25th National Quality Awards in 2018, Dr. Chang personally received an award for “Excellent Management,” becoming the first female ever to be named among the list of individual recipients. From 2009-2015, she was consecutively elected the Chairperson of the Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan (FICHET), and she also served as the Chairperson of Taiwan’s Higher Education Society, which focuses on issues pertaining to higher education such as research, policy suggestions, and academic publications. The Hawaii Research Center for Futures Studies(HRCFS) granted Award for Excellence and Innovation in Institutional Foresight to Dr. Chang in 2016.

    Professor Kuo-Hua Chen

     

    Dr. Kuo-Hua Chen is Dean of College of Education, professor of Department of Education and Futures Design and Director of Center for Futures Intelligence and Research (CFAR), Tamkang University, Taiwan. He was director of Graduate Institute of Futures Studies and the Center for General Education and Core Curriculum and Dean of College of Global Research and Development. Other work-related experiences are: co-editor of Journal of Futures Studies, international editorial board member of World Futures Review, fellow and executive board member of World Futures Studies Federation. He has been teaching futures curses for over 25 years, including social futures, change and development, speculative design, future-oriented policy studies, futures research methodology. His research interests include youth images of the future, evaluation of futures education, measurement of foresight styles and futures consciousness, aging society and health futures.

    Professor Sohail Inayatullah

    Sohail Inayatullah, a political scientist and futurist, is the UNESCO Chair in Futures Studies at the Sejahtera Centre for Sustainability and Humanity, IIUM, Malaysia. He is also Professor at Tamkang University, Taiwan and Associate, Melbourne Business School, the University of Melbourne. He teaches from www.metafutureschool.org where his courses include Become a Futurist and Personal Futures: the CLA of the Self. He is listed in the top two percent of the world’s scientists as measured by the highest impact of citations.

     


    Professor Anisah Abdullah

    Strathclyde Malaysia MBA Information Session & Masterclass - CDC Management DevelopmentAnisah Abdullah consults in foresight for strategy development and has experience in consulting and teaching in 11 countries. She teaches Futures Studies and focuses on developing collaborative learning environments, and creating curriculum and teaching materials for Futures Studies. She is the managing editor for the Journal of Futures Studies. She founded two communities of practice. She consults on performance measurement, process design, foresight for strategy development and planning projects for private and public sector organizations.

    Dr. José Ramos

    José Ramos has published over 80 articles, chapters, reports and papers on subjects related to futures studies, experimentation / prefigurative innovation, appropriate technology, digital transformation, anticipatory governance, alternative globalizations and planetary change. He has lectured widely and directs Action Foresight and Futures Lab. He holds a doctorate from Queensland University of Technology in critical globalization studies, winning their award for outstanding doctoral thesis.

    Abril Chimal

    Abril Chimal has a background in graphic design and a specialization in Design of Tomorrow, and currently works as a futures and foresight designer. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Association of Professional Futurists and serves as the co-lead editor for Perspectives at the Journal of Futures Studies. Abril has actively engaged as a speaker, facilitator, collaborator, and mentor in various UN offices and as a professor of Design Fiction at CENTRO in Mexico City. She has been awarded the Second Futures Research Grant for her project ‘Futures of Circular Economy in Mexico City’ and received an Honorable Mention from the Association of Professional Futurists for ‘Our Futures: Chile 2050’. Her work and research focus on exploring the intersections of Latin American cultures with other cultures. Her most recent publication for the Journal of Futures Studies is titled “Using Anticipatory Experimentation to Explore and Create Futures of Safety for Women in Mexico.” co-authored with José Ramos. She recently joined the core team of the newly named UNESCO Chair at CENTRO with the project “Design Methods for Democratic Access to Futures Imagination.”

    Ed Niedbalski

    Ed Niedbalski is an American Futures researcher, permanent resident in Finland, and currently living in Taiwan. He has recently completed his Master’s Degree in Futures Studies at the Department of Education and Futures Design at Tamkang University, Taiwan. He has a previous master’s degree in Cultural Anthropology from NUI Maynooth, Ireland. His thesis was based on Ethnographic Futures Research conducted in north India, exploring sustainable food systems in rural communities. He has previous experience in special education and learning facilitation. He has published work in the Journal of Futures Studies on Chinese National Identity and the Hong Kong Protest Movement, featured in Professor Sohail Inyatullah’s CLA 3.0. Ed is the Social Media Manager for The Journal of Futures Studies, as well as Community Manager for the Asia-Pacific Futures Network.

    Jabbar Ismadi

    Jabbar Ismadi is currently studying in the Education and Design Futures Program at Tamkang University, and works as the production editor (part time) for the Journal of Futures Studies. He collaborates closely with authors, overseeing the formatting of manuscripts, figures, images, and tables, and is well-versed in publishing with WordPress.
