Welcome to Perspectives, the section of the Journal of Futures Studies created to reach a wider audience. Perspectives aims to break down the barriers of engagement to futures studies with the public. The regular quarterly is a conventional academic journal. In Perspectives, writers are encouraged to use simpler language, making the content more accessible. Perspectives also uses a variety of mediums and formats for sharing knowledge, such as through videos, podcasts, games, art exhibitions, public / participatory futures projects and pop culture. Perspectives invites authors and readers to adopt a critical, holistic and inclusive view of futures, and to challenge dominant futures images and narratives and generate new images and narratives that respond to the new contexts, present and future, that we find ourselves in.
If you are interested in submitting to Perspectives, please make sure to read the following submission requirements:
- Content no longer than 3000 words, including references
- All images included in your piece need to be royalty-free or under a Creative Commons license.
- References need to be in APA 7 Style. To learn more, click here.
- If you use any AI language model, it must be referenced in the document. The reference should include the name of the platform and the prompts used for generating the written, audio, video, image, and other content. For more information, click here. Also see the JFS policy on use of AI.
- Ensure that the content has not been previously published anywhere. There might be some exceptions*
*In the event that your piece has been published elsewhere, the managing editors will carefully review it for consideration, and read carefully the following guidelines:
1 – If this has been self-published on a personal blog, such as Medium or LinkedIn, it needs to be removed.
2 – Only if the author’s reputation or special status will contribute to the journal’s reputation.
3 – It is considered re-publishable when the piece is translated into a language different from the original. Nevertheless, it must still undergo the referee process. Additionally, being in another language exempts it from the requirement to be taken down.
4 – If the piece is considered a classic work due to its special significance to the field, it will be required to have an introduction or preface explaining to provide context why is still relevant for both the present and the future
5 – We do not accept translations from SSRM articles
